John and Irma Handov Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship Qualifications
  1. This scholarship is open to any student, who has been accepted by, or is presently enrolled in any accredited College or Technical Institute, and whose course of study is in any of the Wildlife, Forestry, Zoology or related disciplines. (Some of these related disciplines include: Botany, Biology, Conservation Police, Entomology, Fisheries Science, Forestry, Ichthyology, Nature Education, Ornithology, Wildlife Management, and Zoology.)

  2. Grade point average of 2.500 or greater (on a 4.000 scale).

  3. All candidates must be U.S. Citizens, and residents of Onondaga County (or have a family member that is a member of one of our Federation Organizations). They may attend college anywhere.

  4. Each candidate must have a valid New York State Hunting, Fishing, or Trapping license. (At least one type or a combination thereof.)

  5. In addition, the candidate must display enthusiasm towards their field of study and the outdoor sports.

  6. Prior experience in any organization that is associated with the outdoor sports, conservation or wildlife will be helpful.

  7. Candidates meeting the above criteria as identified through their application may be required to have a personal interview.

  8. In 2010, there will be 2 scholarships in the amount of $500.00 and $250.00

  9. Any student who has satisfactorily completed their academic year and is continuing on in the same course of study shall be a prime high priority candidate to receive another award for the following year. The same basic criteria will be maintained. Highest consideration will be given to candidates with any affiliation to member clubs in the Onondaga County Federation of Sportsmenís Clubs.
