Scholarship Qualifications

This scholarship is open to any student, who has been accepted by, or is presently enrolled in any accredited College or Technical Institute, and who plans to use their education in helping with Conservation – specifically hunting, fishing and trapping – even if their field of study is not directly related to Biology.  Examples include but are not limited to: outdoor writers, biologists, Environmental Conservation Police, web designers, Fisheries Science, political science majors, forestry, teachers… – as long as the student can demonstrate a worthwhile effect on conservation, hunting, fishing or trapping.

  1. Grade point average of 2.500 or greater (on a 4.000 scale).
  1. All candidates must be U.S. Citizens and residents of Onondaga County (or be, or have an immediate family member that is a member of one of our Federation Organizations or Committees for at least one year prior to submitting an application).
  1. Each candidate must have a valid New York State Hunting, Fishing, or Trapping license.
  1. In addition, the candidate must display enthusiasm towards their field of study and the outdoor sports, and have demonstrated it through their volunteer activities.
  1. Prior experience in any organization that is associated with the outdoor sports, conservation or wildlife will be helpful.
  1. Candidates meeting the above criteria as identified through their application may be required to have a personal interview.
  1. In 2017, the Federation will award up to two (2) scholarships up to $500 each.
  1. Students who have already received a Federation Scholarship can apply for another scholarship the following year(s) as long as they continue to meet the qualification criteria.
  1. Highest consideration will be given to candidates with any affiliation to member clubs in the Onondaga County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs.
